Yagnas

Yagnam

Yagnas are an ancient technique for enhancing the subtle. They also cleanse both the individual and collective consciousness.

Yagna is derived from the Sanskrit verb yaj, which has three meanings: devapujana or deity worship, saogatikarana or unity, and daana or charity. A yagna is one of the oldest rituals used to appease the gods in Sanatan Dharma. Yagna encompasses the qualities of satkaar (welcoming a guest), upkaar (putting another’s needs ahead of our own), and sangathan (unity). People are advised to give with as much grace as they can, rather than out of a sense of obligation, because it is all about giving. The Fire God, known as Agni, is always invited as the chief guest at major ceremonies and life milestones in Hindu culture, where yagna holds a supreme position. A yagna is all about making multiple offerings to this chief guest, accompanied by the chanting of Vedic mantras each time an offering, or aahuti, is made.
