The Sanskrit word vāstu means a dwelling or house with a corresponding plot of land. Vāstu-Śastras (literally, the science of dwelling) are ancient Sanskrit manuals of architecture. These contain Vastu-Vidya (literally, knowledge of dwelling). Vaastu Shastra deals with space designing, malefic benefic aspects, and orientation of the building exterior arrangements matching in according to the laws (elemental forces) of nature.

Vastu shastra are texts on the traditional Indian system of architecture. These texts describe principles of design, layout, measurements, ground preparation, space arrangement, and spatial geometry. Vaastu is a pure science of structures and it discusses the energy field that develops because of the shape of the structure and the way the doors and windows are placed.

Few Basic Principles of Vastu Shastra

  • Shape: The rooms of your house should preferably be square or rectangular.
  • Room Basics: Rooms should be airy, well-lit, bright, and clean.

Vastu Shastra may not be essential for living, but it is helpful for a better and healthier life. It is the science of the environment you live in. Vedic architecture is based on Vastu Shastra, roots can be traced in the scripture called Brihadsanghita.

For eg: According to Vastu Shastra, you should sleep with your head in the south or east direction, which means feet at bedtime should be in the north or west. Every direction has its advantages and its advantages.
